2Halves PIG OUTS: Calea – I now pronounce that every day is a cake day!

Known as the sugar capital of the Philippines, it’s not bizarre to find sweet delicacies here.  Truth is— you’ll have headache choosing.  As for us, we always go to where the locals suggests. And for most that we asked—when it comes to cake, it must be Calea.

Calea Bacolod (22)

Calea is a coffee shop offering wide varieties of eye drooling cakes. From chocolate cakes, cheese cakes, ice cream cakes that come in different flavors; I’m having a hard time thinking how to try each.  But because my partner won’t let me cry over cakes, she agreed to declare that our days in Bacolod be every-day-cake-day! Yehey!!!

Now here’s my take to my 3-day cake intake.

What we had

Calea Bacolod (20)

Caleas’ famous Mud Pie – For people who’s having a hard time choosing between ice cream and cake this star here is right for you. An ice cream cake in superb chocolate flavor, sprinkled with nuts adding crunchiness to its smooth texture will surely be heavenly for y’all.

Calea Bacolod (21)

Blueberry Cheesecake – My forever go to cake. Luckily, it is part of every cake shops and coffee shops bestseller. And yes it is one of Calea’s too. The cheesecake topped with the right amount of berries and cream is simply the right one for me.

Calea Bacolod (27)

Caramel Pecan Pie – Whether you’re a fan of caramel or just jumping on the bandwagon, their Pecan caramel Cheesecake is truly worth sinking your teeth into. The caramel cheesecake generously topped with a not too sweet caramel sauce is best paired with their hot brewed coffee.

Calea Bacolod (29)

Mango cheesecake – Not as creamy-creamy cream cheese based cake as the first two. This one has a firm more gelatinous cheesecake texture making its mango tang more distinctly palatable.

Calea Bacolod (30)

Floating Island – Their version soft meringue – brazo de mercedes; yup! It has the same fluffy light sweetness, cottony soft texture. Except for one it’s not rolled; two, custard creates the bottom part; and three, it’s topped with melted sugar turned sugar candy making it one of the most sugary sweet dessert. Is this a cake? Who cares? Well my partner here doesn’t, as this is her favorite of them all.

You need to check their cake stand/fridge and tell the smiling waitresses what you like. Calea seems to have no printed menu (or maybe I just did not see one?) Do not worry if you can’t see the price as it ranges P80-120 per slice, sweet right?

Ms. PROMDI Tips:

  • Don’t show off. If you’re not into coffee, you can always pair your cake with service water and save at least P80.00. But I love cakes and coffee together… forever! 😛
  • Don’t settle for their best sellers. I heard that the Broken Glass Pie is great too.
  • Slices of cakes in Calea are generous and are good for sharing. Go in groups or in pairs, order different cakes and have a taste of each.
  • They have several branches; but if you’re unsure with what you want, the one in 15th street is your best bet for more cake selection.

What can I say? It’s where we saw a group of straight guys hanging out over cakes and coffee, aghhh cute! All in all, Calea definitely is a happy place for those who have sweet tooth for cakes. Our 3 day cake-day surely isn’t enough to try and taste them all (sigh). Maybe I should’ve dined in here twice or thrice a day; maybe, next time? Who’s with me?!!
